📚 Staff Highlight: Ms. Borquez – Elementary Literacy Interventionist 📚 Meet Ms. Borquez, an incredible Elementary Literacy Interventionist at Village Meadows since April 2024! She dedicates her days to supporting both third-grade classrooms, providing small-group lessons designed to strengthen essential reading skills. Right now, she’s helping students prepare for the state test and monitoring their progress to ensure every child stays on track. Ms. Borquez has a deep passion for education and watching her students grow. She loves seeing their excitement as they overcome challenges and celebrate successes. She truly values being part of the third-grade team and enjoys collaborating with her second-grade counterpart. Mrs. Gorder, a third-grade teacher, describes her as “fantastic—I don’t have to tell her what to do; she’s so independent!” Outside of school, Ms. Borquez is a proud mother of four and enjoys spending time with her family. Married to a Sierra Vista native, she came here through the military with her parents and later graduated from Buena. She holds an associate degree in Elementary Education and loves camping, traveling—especially to the beach where she likes to paddleboard — and visiting National Parks with her family. When choosing Village Meadows, Ms. Borquez was drawn to its strong leadership, clear expectations, and uplifting staff under Mrs. Wambach. She thrives in an environment where she can support students, collaborate with teachers, and make a meaningful impact. So, what exactly does a Literacy Interventionist do? They work with K-3 students in small-group intensive instruction, helping them meet grade-level literacy standards. In SVUSD, these groups are led by highly trained paraprofessionals at all elementary schools, ensuring every child gets the support they need to succeed! Dear Buena Families, We want to address an incident that occurred at tonight’s basketball game. During the event, some fans from the opposing team had an altercation with police, which required additional law enforcement intervention. Two individuals were detained, but we want to emphasize that no Buena students or families were involved in any way. We greatly appreciate our students and fans for representing Buena with respect and for following the directions of administration and law enforcement during the situation. Your cooperation helped ensure that the game remained a safe environment for everyone. We also want to extend our gratitude to the Sierra Vista Police Department for their quick response and for working to keep our school events safe. As always, we encourage good sportsmanship and respectful conduct at all athletic events. 🎉 JCMS 8th Graders Get a Warm Welcome at Buena! 🎉 Last week, our JCMS 8th graders, along with students from five other area schools, got a glimpse of all the amazing opportunities Buena High School has to offer! 📚🎩 History came to life for our 4th graders at Huachuca Mountain! 🎩📚 Martha Washington (aka a special guest!) visited Ms. Vinche’s classroom, tying together the last few chapters of their Wonders social studies lessons. She shared stories about her upbringing, life in the 1700s, and her perspective on George Washington. Then, she captivated students by reading George vs. George, exploring the rivalry between George Washington and King George III during the American Revolution. 🚀✨ 3rd Grade Roadrunners Reach for the Stars! ✨🚀 Last week, the 3rd graders in Ms. Cooley’s and Ms. Thuma’s classes showcased something truly out of this world! 🌍🌟 In Ms. Thuma’s reading class, students explored a chapter in the Wonders reading series about Earth and the planets. Instead of traditional workbook pages, they had the exciting option to get crafty and build their own solar systems—and they went all in! 🎨🪐 Each student received instructions and a rubric to guide their work, and they had about a week and a half to bring their solar system to life. The results?
