Here is the bell schedule for Buena for Tuesday, December 13th.
Due to our area forecast for ice and snow overnight all Sierra Vista Unified School District schools will have a delayed start time of two hours. Buena will begin at 9:20am, JCMS at 11am and elementary schools at 10am. Bus times will be pushed back 2 hours on all routes and stops. All release times will remain as a normal school day. Breakfast will still be served but only cereal. Buena will not have zero hour. Thank you.
Students at Town & Country Elementary got to take part in a little holiday cheer and decorate gingerbread men cookies. But, these were not any ordinary gingerbread men. Buena Culinary students made the cookies using cookie cutters that were designed and printed by Buena Engineering students using a 3D printer. Once the template was created, it traveled to the Auto Shop and students used their metalworking skills to make the cookie cutters. The cookie cutters headed back to the student’s kitchen where the dough was rolled out and baked. Buena Culinary students then headed to Town & Country with the giant cookies, candy and frosting and worked with the elementary students to decorate the gingerbread men.
Everyone had a blast and the first graders were so happy to have the big kids come to their class and work with them. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in making this holiday cheer happen!!!
Join us tomorrow night for Buena Band's Annual Holiday Concert!
On Monday, students from the EMS class had the opportunity to meet with a crew from PHI. Students were able to ask questions and explore what makes these medical helicopters so important to our community.

Will Jack’s plan be successful? Or will Santa’s troupe come through and take to the skies? Come and find out!

The DECA Virtual Business Challenge Results Are In!
Buena DECA did an outstanding job at this year's first round of the DECA VBC! Skills were tested and showcased through a certain simulated game-like Virtual Business environment. The marketing students worked hard to find the most efficient system for their respective track, and their efforts are reflected in the standings! Many students placed in the state, regional, and national level!
For Entrepreneurship, nine of the top ten students that placed in the state were from Buena! Nathan Green placed second in the state and Jason Janssen placed third! For Fashion, two Buena marketing students placed in the top ten in the state, with George McLachlan placing second!
For Restaurant, four Buena marketing students placed in the top ten in the state! For the DECA Hotel Challenge, two Buena marketing students placed in the top ten in the state! Two Buena marketing students placed in the top ten in the state for Sports! In Accounting, one Buena Marketing placed in the top ten in the state as well! A big congratulations to all those who placed!
Wishing everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
On October 6th at the Cochise College Benson Center, students from DECA, HOSA, and Skills USA spent an entire school-day working as a team to prepare for the best year for their respective student organization! Specifically, Marketing, Film and TV, Nursing, and Sports Medicine attended this event.
The start time was 8:30 am, the end time was 2:30 pm, and lunch was provided.
Throughout the day, the students learned about leadership, officer duties,
designing an agenda, student organization constitution/bylaws, developing a
program of work, submitting dues, running a chapter meeting, and building a
team flag! There was also a session for the advisors! With their newly gained
knowledge, Buena High School's chapter officers are ready for a great year!
All school and district offices will be closed Monday, November 21st through Friday, November 25th for the Thanksgiving Break. We hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving break.

Way to go Colts!!
Last week the Buena administration began an investigation regarding a video that was shared on social media of an incident involving the boys basketball team. During the investigation administration spoke with the team and sent a letter to all students and parents in the boys basketball program that any behaviors that are in violation of district policy, regardless of whether these actions were said or acted in a joking manner, will not be tolerated. Any student that is confirmed to have acted in any manner that is against district and school policy will face appropriate disciplinary action.
In the beginning of the investigation BHS admin was unable to identify specific individuals, but as the investigation continued administration was able to identify the students involved in this isolated incident. At that time, administration notified the varsity boys basketball team that practice had been suspended and the Thanksgiving Tournament was canceled. Disciplinary action has been taken against the students involved in this incident in line with policy. Details regarding the discipline of individual students cannot, by law, be released.
Any behaviors that violate school and district policy will not be tolerated at Buena. Should a parent, student or community member have any information regarding any violation of school policy please contact the school.
Just like adults do, students sometimes get stuck, feel stressed or get overwhelmed at school. Learn about resources available, practice activities that help refocus, and much more. Everyone is welcome to attend on Thursday, November 17th from 4-6pm at Town & Country Elementary Cafeteria.

It is National School Psychologist week and here at SVUSD we have a great group that support our students! School psychologists provide direct support and interventions to students, consult with teachers, families, and other school-employed mental health professionals (i.e., school counselors, school social workers) to improve support strategies, work with school administrators to improve school-wide practices and policies, and collaborate with community providers to coordinate needed services.
Thank you for shining bright in our school family!
Do you have an American flag that is no longer in a serviceable condition? Buena JROTC is hosting a flag retirement ceremony on Thursday, November 10th from 4-6pm at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Everyone is welcome to attend.
