🍂🎃 October was a whirlwind of excitement in SVUSD, and it's time for a month in review! 🌟
🏫 From educational honors to festive fall events, SVUSD schools were buzzing with activity. 👩🏫👨🎓
🎉 Throughout the month, several SVUSD schools held educational honors and PBIS assemblies, celebrating academic achievements and fostering a positive school culture. Village Meadows even had a fantastic field trip to the Cove! 🚀🏞️
🕺💃 Huachuca Mountain hosted a groovy Sock Hop Dance, while Town and Country had a Fall Festival. Bella Vista and PDS Elementary set the spooky mood with their Boo Bash and Fall Festival. JCMS introduced the "Trunk or Treat" tradition, a big hit among students and families. 🕷️🎃
🚒 The Sierra Vista Fire Department and Fry Fire Department set up mini smokehouses, making fire safety fun and educational for our young learners. 🔥
🧡 On October 18th, we all stood against bullying by wearing orange across our schools. Red Ribbon Week was a blast, with students dressing up and embracing themed spirit days. Carmichael and Town and Country had some furry friends visit, teaching students about animals and respect. 🐕🐾
🍁 Mid-month, we all enjoyed a well-deserved fall break, recharging before diving into the second quarter. 🌟
🎭 Buena Fine Arts brought Halloween vibes with Halloween Shorts, and College and Career Night provided valuable resources for high school students and families. Colleges, the military, and local employers shared scholarship and career info. 🎓👩🔬
👻 As October wrapped up, SVUSD schools hosted costume and character parades, ending the month on a creative and festive note. 🎉🎃

🔌💡 Inspiring Future Engineers! 💡🔌
Yesterday, Buena High School's Engineering Club visited Carmichael 5th grade students during their technology special. 🚀 Our high school students shared their passion for STEM and introduced our young scholars to the exciting world of electric circuits, coding, and the magic of RGB (Red, Green, Blue) LED color-changing technology. 🌈
In a hands-on project, small groups of students had the opportunity to build their own circuits and dive into the world of coding using a Chromebook. 🖥️👷♀️👷♂️ It was a day of learning, creativity, and sparking interest in the fields of engineering and technology.

📚 The firefighters shared essential knowledge about fire safety, emergency procedures, and the heroic work they do while visiting the mobile smokehouse. Learning and safety combined! 🧯🏠

Excitement for the Carmichael Bears was great when they had a chance to visit with special dogs twice in the last week. First, selected students got to meet with the Go Team dogs last Wednesday. The GoTeam dogs are a group of specially trained therapy dogs that provide comfort and support anywhere people could use love from a four-legged friend. Dr Roos, the Carmichael counselor, set up the special event and made it with the help of her student leadership team a wonderful heartfelt success.Thank you Go Team! Then, yesterday a K9 team from Fort Huachuca met with all grades to learn about working dogs. Sergeant Medina and Sergeant Hawthorne with their Explosive Detection Dog Chico demonstrated to the Bears how dogs find explosive materials. As a bonus, and the astonishment of the Bears, the team showed his patrol duty skills used for suspect apprehension. The students were very impressed and took full advantage of the chance to ask the team questions afterward. Thank you Sergeant Medina, Sergeant Hawthorne and Chico!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Due to adverse weather conditions and the presence of lightning in a 10 mile area, we will be implementing a delayed dismissal procedure today at Carmichael Elementary School. The safety of our students is of paramount importance, and we are taking these precautions to ensure their well-being. During delayed dismissal all students who ride the bus or walk home will be kept in the school until the lightning has passed.
Parents are welcome to pick up their students by coming to the office to sign them out. Please bring a photo ID with you to the office.
We sincerely appreciate your understanding and cooperation during these weather-related delays. Your child's safety is our top priority, and we are committed to making informed decisions that ensure their well-being.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Bullying can impact a student’s education, physical, emotional health, and their safety and well-being.
Together we can create communities that are kinder, more inclusive and accepting for all students. In support of National Bully Prevention Month we are encouraging all SVUSD students and staff to wear orange on October 18th to show unity against bullying.
Does your student have a computer at home for their personal use? Would you like for your student to be creative and explore? Or being able to work on assignments from home on a school device? SVUSD is pleased to offer the opportunity to all parents to check out a home Chromebook for all registered SVUSD students. Through the Emergency Connectivity Fund we were able to purchase Chromebooks for home use in order to close the homework gap and support connectivity for all students. Carmichael fifth grade students were building 3D animals and then determined the volume and surface area. In the project the students had to break down composite shapes into rectangular prisms first to find the volume for each, then add it all together. Beyond the mathematical aspect, the students engaged in research about the animals they were building. Overall, this project was a well rounded educational experience that combined creativity, mathematics, and research, which was engaging and enriching for all fifth grade students. Way to go Bears!

Carmichael’s Mrs. Polson name was drawn by Texas Roadhouse out of over 300 entries to receive a classroom gift basket filled with goodies needed in every classroom like pencils, whiteboard markers and crayons. Texas Roadhouse guests could nominate their elementary teacher in the first weeks of school to win the basket. Assistant Manager Leola Hawkins presented the basket to Mrs. Polson and extended a thank you to all educators in Cochise County for their work. Congratulations Mrs. Polson! Thank you to Texas Roadhouse for supporting area teachers!
Today is National Custodian Appreciation Day and SVUSD is giving a big shout out to all our custodians. Thank you for keeping our schools and offices clean, safe and healthy. We appreciate all their hard work, our schools would not be what they are without their help!
Last night Carmichael families, PTO and teachers came together for our first Title 1 night and Ice Cream Social. Mrs. Owsley, our Title 1 teacher, gave important information about our reading program and even had parents actively participate in a placement test. Oh, what fun for the kids to see! Thank you parents and guardians for coming out and supporting the event and a big shout out to our PTO for providing the ice cream. Stay tuned for more information about our next Title 1 night!
